With open soffits (exposed rafters) how do I increase my intake ventilation?

One way to increase intake ventilation in open soffit applications is to alter the frieze block.

One way to increase intake ventilation in open soffit applications is to alter the frieze block. The final piece of wood that finishes the wall up to the underside of the roof deck, between the rafters is the frieze block. In situations where the frieze block is not part of the structural load bearing capacity of the wall or roof, it can simply be knocked out and replaced with screen or an undereave style vent. In cases where the frieze block is considered structural, two options are available. Cutting out pieces of the frieze block such that it maintains its structural integrity and placing in smaller vents or removing the frieze block and replacing it with a structural, load bearing vent. The engineer or architect responsible for the job should approve either of these situations. Another option is to install roof-top intake vent The Edge Vent up the roof where the attic begins if you can limit the distance to no more than 3 feet up the roof.
