If I know the attic square footage a power fan services, can I determine the fan's CFM rating?
Here's the formula for estimating the CFM of a power fan once you know the attic square footage it can service.
Anyone can calculate the estimated CFM (cubic feet of airflow per minute) of a power fan once the attic square footage the fan can service is known. To do this, use the Home Ventilation Institute's industry-accepted formula as follows:
Attic square footage (or the amount of attic square footage the fan is rated to service) x 0.7 = cubic feet of airflow per minute to create 10-12 air exchanges in the attic per hour.
