What are your thoughts on radiant barriers?
Research has showed that radiant barriers can decrease the overall temperature inside an attic. However, radiant barriers will not control moisture in the attic.
Research has showed that radiant barriers can decrease the overall temperature inside an attic. However, radiant barriers will not control moisture in the attic. Thus, radiant barriers are not a replacement for a balanced attic ventilation system. Radiant barriers are dependent on location. A radiant barrier on the floor of an attic performs better than a radiant barrier stapled to the underside of the rafters. However, over time the radiant barrier on the floor accumulates dust quicker than the barrier placed at the rafter. A light sprinkling of dust on the reflective surface of the radiant barrier is enough to decrease the barriers effectiveness substantially.
