What are my options for a shake roof, a metal roof, and a tile roof?
Here are some options for venting shake roofs, metal roofs and tile roofs.
For shake roofs ShingleVent II-9 works well because its 9-inch width is narrower than standard ShingleVent II ridge vent to accommodate the wood shake across the top of it. NOTE: If flashed correctly, ShingleVent II standard ridge vent could be used on all types of roofs including tiles and standing seams. Such an application would require flashing that would wrap around the back of the tile or standing seam protecting the slot opening from wind-driven rain. The vent would have to be sealed to the flashing just beneath the external baffle to prevent any rain driving up between the flashing and the bottom of the ridge vent. Example using ShingleVent II on metal roofs: A contractor has cut ShingleVent II in half. This allows any width metal cap needed. Next step is to wrap the external baffle in metal to match the roof and then glue ShingleVent II to the underside of the metal cap. This work is prefabricated in the shop and then delivered to the job in 10-foot lengths where it is eventually secured to the roof with stainless steel screws.
