Is it possible for ShingleVent II to shrink 1/2 inch between 4-foot sticks?

Here is some information about thermal expansion and shrinkage with 4-foot stick plastic ridge vents.

A half inch of shrinkage seems excessive, but Air Vent has seen a shrinkage gap between the 4-foot sticks when the vent is installed in hot weather and the installer inserted the 1/8" cold weather gap (an 1/8" gap is recommended in cold weather to allow room for thermal expansion come warmer temps). Since the vent is hot, it will never need the 1/8" gap for thermal expansion since it will only contract when the weather gets cold. As the vent contracts, the gap increases.
