Should the rake of the house be vented?

Air Vent does not recommend this application for a few reasons: 1) The angle of the wind approaching the vents in the rake could lead to weather ingestion that is less likely in a horizontal application; 2) Typically rakes do not connect to the main attic so the space being ?vented? would be very small; 3) Since the rakes do not connect to the main attic where would the intake vents have exhaust?
