Is it OK to use an exhaust vent low on the roof for intake ventilation?
Limit the use of exhaust vents to exhaust applications unless it was designed to also be an intake vent.
Using any exhaust vent for intake ventilation potentially can cause problems due to weather infiltration; therefore, Air Vent does not recommend this application. Another problem with vents low on a roof (roof louvers, for example) is the amount of water shedding over them. These vents are designed to be used near the ridge and thus are not affected by large amounts of water run off. However, placed at the bottom of a roof line these vents are subject to many gallons of water rushing onto them at relatively high speeds (dependent on the roof slope).
