Here is info how to install drip edge flashing.

Eave Drip is used to provide a finished look and to provide waterproofing. This eave drip has an overhang that acts as a support for the shingles so they are not just hanging off the edge of the roof. The trim will prevent blow-under leaks in wind-driven rains and also prevent rainwater from running down the fascia by directing it out and away from the fascia and/or directly into the gutter. Typically in most of the country eave drip is installed beneath the moisture barrier roofing underlayment, however in regions subject to HVHZ (high velocity hurricane zone), wind drive rain the code prescribes that as an alternate, drip edge is installed on top of the felt paper.
